Ken Hyman

Jonathan Armitage

Chief Investment Officer MLC & General Manager, NAB Asset Management

Jonathan leads the investment team and assumes overall responsibility for the investment outcomes of the MLC portfolios. Jonathan joined MLC in August 2011 as Global Equities Portfolio Manager. He was appointed Head of Equities in December 2011 and Chief Investment Officer in March 2013. Jonathan has over 25 years investment experience, having worked in the UK, Australia and the US. Jonathan started his career at Schroders in London and has managed UK, Australian, Asian, US, EAFE and global equities. He was Head of US Equities at Schroders from 2005 and then a portfolio manager on the Global Equity team, which managed over US$15bn of assets for institutional and retail clients. Jonathan holds a Masters of Arts from Cambridge and CFA (previously Associate of the Institute of Investment Management and Research).

Susan Gosling

Head of Investments

Susan Gosling is Head of Investments at MLC where she has worked for the past ten years. She has overall responsibility for MLC’s diversified funds, and manages the strategic and active asset allocation processes. Susan has a focus on the application of scenarios analysis to investment decision making; and has designed, built and applied a number of extensive scenarios models for analysis of asset allocation. The blending of top down and bottom up considerations, and the merging of asset allocation and stock selection are also areas of particular interest.

Susan holds a PhD in economics from London University and commenced her career as an economist in London. She has held a number of senior positions in the public sector as well as with both boutique and large funds management firms over the past 25 years.

Ben McCaw

Portfolio Manager, Capital Markets Research

Ben joined the Group as a Senior Analyst for the Capital Markets Research Team in 2008 after working as an Equity Analyst on the sell side at Emerging Growth Capital, Australia.  Ben has also lived in Singapore where he held the position of Technology Investment Advisory at Asia-Pacific BioVentures.

Ben brings a wealth of knowledge to his role and holds a Masters of Applied Finance as well as a PhD in Genetic and Bioinformatics at The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical research from the University of Melbourne.

Ben plays an important role in developing the scenarios analysis models and enhancing MLC’s stochastic modelling processes.

Gareth Abley

Head of Alternative Strategies

From 1998 to 2002, Gareth was a manager research analyst with Skandia UK focusing on equities, fixed interest and diversified portfolios. In 2002, he joined MLC as an asset consultant and later became Head of Asset Consulting. In this role he led a team which was responsible for advising a diverse range of institutional clients (including super funds, charities, endowments and health insurers) on their investment strategies. Gareth is currently Head of Alternative Strategies, where he is responsible for evolving MLC’s alternatives capabilities and is co-PM (with Jehan Sukhla) of the Low Correlation Strategy, which was created in 2008. The strategy was the winner of the ‘Multi-Strategy Hedge Fund of the Year Award’ in 2014.

Myooran Mahalingam

Portfolio Manager

Myooran has been with MLC since 2001 and is the Portfolio Manager for the Global Equity & Global Listed Property strategies; a key component of MLC & MySuper diversified portfolios.

Previously, Myooran was responsible for formulating the strategic asset allocation products for the firm’s suite of multi-asset class strategies for the Capital Markets Research team. In 2004 he transitioned to Manager Research to his current role, where he builds and tailors multi-manager portfolios to meet client needs and to assess new investment managers and strategies. Prior to joining MLC, Myooran spent two years working as an Actuarial Consultant at Deloitte.

He is a Qualified Actuary, a CFA Charter holder and completed a Bachelor of Economics with majors in Actuarial Studies and Finance from Macquarie University.

Peter Sumner

Portfolio Manager

Peter joined MLC in 1989, to assist in the management and development of cash, short term and fixed interest strategies. In 2008, he became the Portfolio Manager for Australia Equity and Property Funds. Peter has strong manager research capabilities across equities, REITs and fixed income asset classes. Peter holds a B. Bus., ASIA, M. Bus (Finance).

Simon Elimelakh

Head of Investment Risk

Simon Elimelakh is Head of Investment Risk where he set up and runs, with his team, a comprehensive multi-asset class multi-manager investment risk framework which is recognised as one of the leading investment risk platforms in the industry.

He is also a voting member and the alternate chair of the Investment Committee.

Simon joined MLC in February 2012 and has 25 years of investment experience in Australia having worked in senior roles for several major domestic and international funds management and consulting firms including Ibbotson/Morningstar Investment Management Australia (Head of Strategy), BT Investment Management (Head of Quantitative Investment Strategies), Rothschild Asset Management (Head of Quantitative Analysis) and (MSCI) BARRA (Senior Consultant).

Simon holds Master’s Degree in Applied Mathematics; he is a CFA Charter holder, Fellow of FINSIA and a member of the Q-Group Australia and CQA (Chicago Quantitative Alliance).

Stuart Piper

Head of Fixed Income

Stuart joined MLC in October 2008 and has primary responsibility for the fixed income portfolios. Prior to joining MLC, he was responsible for managing the fixed income capabilities of UBS Global Asset Management in Asia Pacific. Stuart has been managing fixed income in the capacity of Head of and/or Portfolio Manager since 1985.
Stuart holds a BA (Economics), Bachelor of Laws.
